CADMUS
DESIGN/BUILD - Licensed Architects, LEED Accredited Professionals
and Certified General Contractors, as well as, Environmentalists, Artists
and Craftsmen, all in-house, provide turn-key solutions [review our
bio].
Brief
As an environmental design/build firm Cadmus utilizes a Master Builder
approach specializing in the integration of green and sustainable materials
and methodologies used to reduce project delivery time, pinpoint accountability
and add value by integrating design disciplines, project management
and construction practices; all this with a commitment to the highest
United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and LEED (Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design) Program standards.
History
The Design/Build system often cites the original "Master Builder"
model used to build most pre-modern projects. Under the Master Builder
approach, the architect was the central figure and held total project
accountability. From inception to completion, the Master Builder was
the key organizational figure and strictly liable to the owner for defects,
delays, and losses. The Cadmus Design/Build system is a return to some
of the fundamentals of the Master Builder approach with the added features
and benefits of energy efficiency and environmental care.
Overview
of Process
Typically the hallmark of a Design/Build project is that one
organization is responsible for both design and construction of the
project.
Cadmus
Design-Build focuses on combining the design, permit, and construction
schedules in order to streamline the traditional design, bid, permitting,
construction and sub-contractor set-up. Importantly, this streamlining
also integrates environmental responsibilities for design, construction
and life-cycle demands of the built environment.
Benefits
of Cadmus Design-Build
Cadmus
Design/Build methodologies are designed to save time, money, energy
and the environment as they protect the integrity of the overall project.
Cadmus Design/Build provides:
Time
and Cost Savings
Accuracy and Efficiency which result in a shorter construction loan
period coupled with an earlier in-use date generally yield higher
profitability to the project.
Energy
and Environmental Savings
From
site selection to alternative energy systems and life-cycle cost analyses,
Cadmus provides responsible and reliable recommendations and specifications
for materials, systems and methodologies. This means working with the
USGBC as a LEED Accredited Professional along with other federal, state
and local authorities to follow guidelines and implement certification
criteria in specifying renewable and sustainable resources, utilizing
recycling programs, creating less waste, minimizing VOC's and reducing
the carbon footprint with Low Impact Design and Construction practices.
These practices provide a healthier built environment as they save energy,
the environment as a whole and considerable operational cost savings
over time.
Clear,
One-Point Accountability
Rather
than a fractured scattering of responsibility typical of the classic
design-bid-build, Cadmus provides an integrated solution with clear,
single point accountability for the client. This moves projects away
from the "finger-pointing" that is often commonplace in
contemporary construction projects, and allows the owner to look to
one entity with any questions or concerns.
Single
Source, Streamlined Process
Instead
of having several contractors and consultants, our client has just one
entity to deal with. Design revisions, project feedback, budgeting,
permitting, construction issues, change orders, and billing can all
be routed through Cadmus. This single point of contact allows a certain
degree of flexibility for the owner. Cadmus will leverage that flexibility
for the owner's benefit by continually refining the construction program
to maximize the owner's value at the completion of the project.
Value-Based
Project Development
Typically,
in order for a contractor to bid on a project, very specific details
relating to the methods and materials must be given to avoid any ambiguity
and to make an "apples to apples" comparison of bids. With
Cadmus Design/Build, the client and Cadmus can work together to determine
what methods and materials will maximize the client's value. In instances
where marginally more expensive materials, designs, or construction
methods might yield a higher return on investment for the client than
those of lower cost, the client is free to adjust the project's program
without having to re-bid the entire project.
